Lyrics:
Sitting here just thinking – In the silence of the dark
Should I keep on driving – Or find a place to park
Sometimes I’m just a passenger – Sometimes I get to drive
I’m not sure where I’m going – But I’m glad to be alive
Hope rests on my shoulder – When you are by my side
The sun’s just across the horizon – Wherever we may ride
Our lives are but a journey – With stops along the way
Some-times all is quiet – Sometimes we’re in the fray
It’s easy to be happy – When things are all on track
We find a way to forge ahead – When others would turn back
We’re strong when we’re together – No way to keep us down
Our wheels just keep on turning – We always get around
Exploring the world both day and night – Nothing stands in our way
I think of you when I see the sun rise – And thankful for one more day
Cool breeze in the air, the sun on my face – Your hand inside of mine
It settles me down to know that you’re there – True love’s so hard to find
We face the world together – Hand in hand we ride
I know that I’ll never be alone – As long as you’re by my side
Written by Michael Wheeler as a love note to his wife Dina, this song exemplifies what it is to find the right person to share the journey of life. The world isn’t always kind and life is rarely easy, but having someone to lighten the burdens and help you press on makes all the difference. Not a fan of traditional love songs, this was a huge departure from Michael’s typical writing style. As such, it took on a more blues/jazz straightforward approach with softer melodic tones. Enjoy!
